Eesterus Downs wins Abraham Ngcobo's tournament

Eesterus Downs had three games to play to get to the finals, each game was a win for them including the finals. Making the Ngcobo’s tournament theirs.

Eesterus Downs football club has almost 25years playing at Hammanskraal Local Football Association (HALFA) league, they have been champions for 15 years and have returned 15 times at the playoffs of castle league because they were unlucky. Lucas Seemise is the chairman/coach of the team, Eesterus Downs and he strongly believes that each one of his team has got potential and one day big clubs will be buying them off from him and their guidance.

“It has been quite a difficult time for the entire team since covid-19 happened we are having difficulties not only is our team, but all teams are,” said Lucas. Eesterus Downs pushed through the circumstances, they first played against Chelsea and they won the game through penalties, their second game was against Vuvuka which was won through penalties also. That was their way through the finals. “it is quite challenging with our opponents having strong strategies, but I can gladly say we are grateful for going through the finals’’ said Kgothatso Seemisi, a team member of the Eesterus Downs.

The finals were Eesterus Downs against Kasi Eleven, the score for the entire game was 2:0 it was a win for Eesterus Downs. The man of the match was Ntsako Makhubela from Eesterus Down.

“It is a great honour to have been selected as the man of the match and I would like to give thanks to the couch for pushing us and allowing us to showcase our talents in the field’’ said Ntsako. He was given a small trophy and the entire team received gold medals, a trophy and R7000                                                  from the Abram Ngcobo’s                                                      tournament.

The multi-talented young man who goes by the name of Francis Junior Krakue owns a Salon and is an Actor in one of the Nigerian stories.

“I grew up in Nigeria with both parents still alive, I am the 4^th out of the 5 siblings, and I am a 28year old guy who’s trying to make a living out my talents.” said Junior, he attended school at NAFTI (NATIONAL AND TELEVISION INSTITUTION) education continued as parents wanted. “I actually have a degree in media and my senior brother is a nail technician, I had to also follow in his footsteps a little bit and I acquired some skills from him, and I also went to college” said Junior.

According to Junior growing up was great for him because everything was done for him and his siblings, also even after their parents had separated which happens to most families, his father made sure they are all taken care of and their education is being paid off, but it did affect him in a way and that did not stand in his way of him pursuing his career. “growing up I always wanted to be an actor which is a dream come true to me and because I am able to do other thing why not do them? I am also a qualified male nail technician so yeah I rather be sitting here doing women their nails than being in the streets selling drugs and doing crime like other people my age” said Junior.

He has people that he looks up to especially being in the acting industry “In acting I look up to Will Smith and some other Nigerian actors which I doubt you know them” said Junior. According to one of the employees at his salon, she had said she actually enjoys working with him, he does not make it seem as if they are his employees instead, we are more of colleagues. “when I first came here to Soshanguve, I had nothing but I made sure I strive my way up, own my salon instead of having to work with my brother and I am glad to say I own my very own Salon and I have employed quite some people I am great full for that” said Junior.

He also stated that he intends on having to own more than one salon so he gets to empower more unemployed youth, encourage them that not all is lost there are still jobs available and also he is going to be a big thing people are too see in the acting industry.

Mnandi corner (II) is an Ice cream shop opened on the 12th April 2021, aimed at empowering unemployed youth. It is based just opposite TUT North Campus.

The shop was first formed at Block H in Soshanguve, in 2018 August, it is now more of a franchise business owned by Karabo Latakgomo, who was then unemployed then thought of selling stuff for a living, he said it is very hard to get a job, a person is forced to do something for an income and me not to get into crime I had to think of something better and inspirational.

“It is empowerment to youth because when it first opened I was the only one working there, we then got two more workers, who are working in this second shop, we mostly change shifts if I’m not in the new girl will be coming in on my off days,’’ said Victoria Khumalo an employee at Mnandi corner (II), who first started working for the first shop that was opened in 2018.

When asked what they sell Victoria said, they sell Ice creams and snacks only, mostly deserts and also Masks because students tend to forget their masks and they cannot enter the schoolyard so it makes it easier for their business to run. Nobukhosi Tshabalala who is a second-year student said that the shop is very convenient because it sells refreshments and deserts like Ice creams and also ice blocks which they buy after classes.

“I enjoy their Ice creams, well for me it is much nicer in Winter so I am excited. It has created job opportunities for youth and the service we get from them is just out of this world, they should keep it up,” said Nobukhosi.

“We are open from Monday to Saturday due to cold weather since we are approaching June and it gets dark early. I hope we get to have more of our shops all over Sosha, so a lot of people can get employment, I know it’s not nice to not have any income at all and it gets better than just sitting at home”, said Victoria.
